The Corbett Rewards System
We decided that the reward system we had been using with the kids was too subjective, so we started a new system last week. J.D. and Jake can earn checkers to put in their jars (which they helped me decorate) by doing their assigned chores and can earn more when they do other things without being asked. They also get checkers taken out if they do not obey or do something we tell them not to do after they first receive a warning. J.D.'s daily chores are to clean up toys and clear the table. Jake's assigned chores are clean up toys and set the table. J.D. has also surprised me several times this week by cleaning up his room and picking up toys in the play room without being asked, so he could earn a checker. Once they earn ten checkers, they can choose a prize out of the prize box (or bigger prizes for 20 checkers). So for the first week, so far so good.

We have done a similar system - a "sparkle jar" - with florist decorative marbles when they do their work well or we catch them doing something extra nice or kind. I decided they had to fill their jar to earn something. That is pretty hard, though, it was only a small jelly jar, but still...I may need to rethink and go to a plan more like 10= or 20= or even 30=. But my girls are a little older so that could work for them. Thanks for the idea!!
The hardest part of any of it is consistency though...
